Beyond the Garden God’s Houseplants

By Sahara Sutter

Mystery and inescapable connections echo through generations. By the time she was middle-aged, Cindy was resigned to being terminally lost. After searching everywhere, she accepted her life lacked a belonging or welcoming place to call home. She feels as a forgotten child left at the doorstep of the wrong planet. Despite taking refuge in her successful career, her aspirations were empty. She long ago accepted the promising stories of Prince Charming and happily ever after were myths to provide hope to orphans like herself.

Sahara Sutter (SS): Old photos depict an idyllic black-and-white life in DeLand, Florida, a small southern town. There, a long-lost diary unveils mayhem, murder, madness, and deception beneath a roof of prominence and wealth. Sophie’s Wildflowers unfolds during the tumultuous 1950s and 1960s, presenting an intriguing mix of murder, deception, and fairy tale.

SS: Some connections resonate through time and across humanity. As an only child, I related to Sophie’s story. Like her, I spoke to my mirror and shared adventures with my reflection. There, I found someone to confide in. Sophie also transforms insights into deception and reveals secrets regarding murder, madness, and a twisted legacy.

SS: I am continually amazed by how history shapes us into who we are today. The diversity of people, situations, and experiences resonates with a remarkable connection among all of us. Sophie’s Wildflowers is both a murder mystery and a celebration of ingenuity.

Sophie Sherman passed away shortly after giving birth to Cindy Peterson. Now middle-aged, Cindy learns more about her mother when a friend discovers Sophie’s diary in an old suitcase from decades ago and gives it to Cindy. The diary reveals insights into issues such as murder, mental illness, and deception within Sophie’s wealthy and prominent family.

Through the long-lost and now recovered diary, Cindy Peterson “meets” the most remarkable young lady she has ever met—”my Mother” (on paper)—for the first time and describes her as the most amazing young lady ever.

SS: Yes! ENJOY the story! It was written by two ladies (Cindy Peterson and Sophie Sherman) who struggled with the times and faced individual challenges. Their writings are presented as each wrote them to preserve their authenticity.
